Story War reached $270,000 in funding today, which is INSANE! We literally made $52,000 in one day! Which means we unlocked a lot of cool stretch goals, including:
New Game Mode unlocked:
Endless Journey
Endless Journey is meant to be played in a fashion similar to D&D. It’s an alternate game mode of Story War that focuses more on teamwork than direct combat - it’s everyone vs “the deck” rather than everyone vs each other, sort of like Munchkin. Players pick a Warrior card combined with an Item card that will represent them for the entirety of the game.
Players work as a team to take out enemies in randomly generated dungeons. Each “dungeon” is “randomly generated” by shuffling all three categories of cards together, then drawing cards until you get a Battlefield card. The Warriors drawn before the Battlefield (equipped with the Items drawn before the Battlefield) serve as a judge-controlled “boss battle” that each player must band together against. The goal isn’t to defeat other players, but to be the most useful member of your team - points are awarded after each battle, which can be spent like currency to purchase new Items between turns.
But there’s more! Endless Journey is meant to be played with a recurring group of people, every few weeks. There is continuity between rounds, and even between games. What’s more, we’ll be posting Endless Journey updates once a month. These updates will affect all players who have an Endless Journey session that month. For example, an update might modify the effects of a specific battlefield, change the ratio of cards in the mixed deck, or change the selection of Items available in the store.
The Endless Journey mode will not only have a sense of continuity between sessions, but it’ll have continuity with the greater Story War community! It’s going to be super cool! This Game Mode is definitely the most complicated but we’ll be sure to have it thoroughly worked out and up-and-running before your cards arrive, so you and your friends can incorporate it as a staple into your recurring game night.
