comics0026:

Had this image stuck in my head for a while, had to draw it to get it out. Might turn it into a Story War card now that I’m done. It might fit in with the urban setting the expansion is doing.

A gas station is a great idea for a battlefield! The urban setting makes coming up with battlefields SO EASY but coming up with Warriors and Items is a lot of work! We’ve had our noses to the grind stone the last few weeks and we’re starting to churn out some great new cards.

Guys we’re still working on expansion cards and we haven’t really finished a single card yet because the development process is taking so long. Because this is a whole new style and a whole new setting and a whole new unifying theme for characters. So it’s a lot of work to even get the first few cards done. But look at this development sketch! Recognize that character design? No? Is it because it’s not a >:D face? It’s StepsOverSnails! He’s designing some characters for us now! ISN’T IT GOOD? The expansion is gonna be so good.

// We need more artists!//

Hey everybody! We need more artists to help us finish the expansion! I don’t want to cast as wide of a net this time, but if you are a fan of Story War and you think you can produce digital art that is on par with the quality of the art on our cards, hit up contact@cantripgames.com with some links to your work.

flapwagon asked: So the people who funded the Kickstarter are definitely getting volume one of the game, but volume two is going to be a separate thing, right? Or is that also included as a backer reward?

People who paid $40 are definitely getting volume 2 but it will ship much later, we have to actually make it first. (We’re working on it right now.)

rutabeggar asked: So what's the window for when the game's going to be sent out to the backers? I know the final print was sent off to the printers recently but there hadn't been much news on that front other than that

It takes time. I mean. We “sent it off to the printers” and printers are a factory that produces a product at maximum efficiency and speed so it’s not like we can go any faster or slower at this point. We are definitely gunning hard to get the pallets actually sent to us before August but I’m not sure how long it will take to have all 7,000 of them mailed off to the individual backers.

rundoublerun asked: So, going by your most recent post, can we assume that the previous stuff for the expansion, like the Kami and Oni, will not be in Volume 2?

Yeah, probably not! We’re theming each set pretty heavily to make them feel distinctive and cohesive. The Kami and Oni don’t fit the theme of volume 2, but if we ever make volume 3 they would definitely fit in there.

buggyprincedan asked: is there some way i can change my address from the storywar kickstarter to my current one because I moved? I don't remember how i even entered in shipping details but I'm across the country now and I'd rather my mom not have to also pay shipping to get the deck to me.

We haven’t collected addresses yet. The address you entered when you placed the order was a requirement by kickstarter to verify your credit card, etc. But we will wait until right before we ship to actually collect addresses. We’re doing this specifically to avoid sending the game to the wrong address after people move!

Hey do you like good art, Pokemon, or speculative biology? If you don’t get outta here! If you do, check out the Midnight Monsters kickstarter by B9 Kingdom! They only have one week left and they are trending towards not reaching their goal. Their goal is $30,000 and their on track to reach $24,000-30,500 which is VERY narrow to say the least.
But we can change this! Even if you can’t afford to back the campaign, you can reblog this post and help spread the word. The artists working on this, KC Green, Becky Dreistadt, Frank Gibson, Evan Dahm and Yuko Ota are exactly the kind of talented and community-minded artists that we should be *patronizing. (*the money-spending definition of patronizing not the condescending one.)
Please, check out Midnight Monsters and back it if you can, but at the very least reblog this post.

Imagine KC Green’s super funny writing and facial expressions combined with Lindsay and Alex Small-Butera’s inherently cute drawing style and badass action sequences. Dats what dis cartoon is gonna be. The Story War cartoon is gonna be so good. Did I mention we’re doing a cartoon? We are doing a Story War cartoon! with KC Green and Lindsay and Alex Small-Butera.

ALSO HEY! Have you backed KC Green’s kickstarter yet? WHY HAVEN’T YOU BACKED KC GREEN’S KICKSTARTER YET!? If you back KC’s Kickstarter you’ll get his comic and ALSO some other cool Pokemon-inspired comics. You guys like Pokemon? You guys like Pokemon. BACK KC GREEN’S KICKSTARTER.

We finally got Volume 1 sent off to the printers, so now we can look towards the future. Here are the very first early sketches for cards from Volume 2 of Story War! This is Vondell’s first sketch of Police Dog and Cat Burglar, who are the fuzz and the furry underbelly of Volume 2’s more urban setting.
Also hey is that a dramatically different tone and creative direction? Yes, it is! Volume 1 focused on popular concepts from fairy tales and mythology, and volume 2 will focus on popular concepts from action movies and saturday morning cartoons. But also we don’t want everyone to be a dumb old human like they are in those mediums so there’s going to be a lot of anthropomorphic characters.
Giving animal attributes to a Story War card really adds a lot of depth to the gameplay - you already know Police Dog is good at smelling and Cat Burglar has night vision without having to define those powers on the cards!
Ah man! I’m already so stoked about Volume 2! GET STOKED.
